[20992] Tilley [653] claims, citing Lysons, that a FitzErcald heiress m. Oliver FitzNigel and their firstborn took the name of Nigel de Longford. Citing Cox, in "Churches" v. 3, he notes that Margaret, dau. of Nigel de Longford was wife of Nicholas Longford. He proposes that the words "wife" and "dau." may have been transposed or that the Longford heiress gave her surname to her son. Citing Earwaker's "Cheshire", Tilley also says that "the ancestor of Oliver FitzNigel was a cousin of Hugh Lupus, Earl of Chester; was Constable of Chester, and held the Barony of Halton."
