NOTES FOR HENRY TYLER II: An order in York Court dated June 25, 1683, mentions HENRY TYLER, Jr ashaving married Elizabeth Chiles, daughter of Walter Chiles andgranddaughter of Lt. Col.Walter Chiles. Elizabeth's mother was thedaughter of John Page but there is no record of her name. But, The Col.John Page left a legacy in his will, and land to John Tyler, son of Henryand Elizabeth Tyler and calls him grandson.
Henry's mother, Ann, had remarried after his father's death leaving thestep-father to finally execute his fathers will. In 1690, Henry and hisbrother John filed a petition in York Court to require Martin Gardner, todivide between them the property left by their mother to their brotherDaniel, who had been carried off by the Turks to Algiers and had not beenheard of for seven years. Henry Tyler leased his fathers land at Middleplantation to Martin Gardner in return for one man servant and a house tobe built.
In 1699 Henry was appointed as one of the directors for buildingWilliamsburg and the General Assembly. In 1699 he purchased 74 acres ofhis fathers original tract for the site of the Governors palace.
- 1700- Henry Tyler qualified as SHERIFF, April 10, 1700 and again in1702, he was CORONER in 1703, and SHERIFFf again in 1705.
