She was designated Henry's heir, and on his death (1135), Stephen siezed the
throne and Matilda invaded England (1139) inuagurating a period of
inconclusive civil war. She and he second husband (Geoffrey) captured Normandy
and in 1152 the Treaty of Wallingford recognised Henry as Stephen's heir.
Burke says she was betrothed in her eight year (1119) to Henry.

SAMUEL MESSENGER married SUSANNAH MILLS. He was listed as a freeholder in 1660. He was mentioned in town records of Jamaica as owning land in 1670. On November 16, 1672, Samuel ""in ye north Rydinge of Yorkshire, on Long Island, conveys to 'widow Ludloe' (Elizabeth Ludlum) house and half lott," which he bought from Daniel Whitehead. In 1683, he was listed as having ten acres in Jamaica, Long Island, New York. His will dated December 20, 1685, proved second Tuesday in March 1685\6 recorded in Queens, New York. To his eldest son, SAMUEL, two acres of meadow, house and homestead, to other sons, ANDREW, DANIEL and JOHN, each an acre of meadow and my clothing to be equally divided between these sons. To daughter, ALICE, great chest, a three year old heifer and yew. To daughter, SUSANNAH, lesser chest, a three year old heifer, a lamb and five acres of land I "bought" of my brother-in-law, ZACHARIAH MILLS. Other goods, iron, pewter and brass to be equally divided between the two daughters. Corn and provisions on hand to be used for support of family. If wife, SUSANNAH sees fit to marry, give her the best cow, feather bed and all furniture thereof besides one third of the estate. Executrix wife SUSANNAH. Overseers, ZACHARIAH MILLS, BEN JONES and JONAS WOOD. Witnesses, Jonas Wood and Richard Jones. His widow, Susannah on March 26, 1686, confirmed to Zachariah Mills as exchange of land made to her deceased husband, Samuel Messenger.
