Child star, Shirley Temple is a descendant.
Thomas Bliss I, resided at Belstonie, Devonshire, England. Little is known of him except that he was a wealthy landowner and Puritan, persecuted on account of his faith by both civil and religious authorities under the direction of the infamous Archbishop Laud, that he was maltreated, impoverished and imprisoned. He was reduced to poverty and his health ruined by the persecution of the Church of England. He is supposed to have been born about 1550 or 1560, and died about 1636.When the parliament of 1628 assembled, Puritans or Roundheads, as they were called by the Cavaliers, accompanied the members to London. Two of the sons of Thomas Bliss, Jonathan and Thomas, rode from Devonshire on iron-grey horses and remained for some time-long enough, anyhow, for the king*s officers and spies to mark them; and from that time forth they with others who had gone on the same errand to the capital were marked for destruction. The Bliss brothers were fined a thousand pounds for their non-conformity and thrown into prison, where they lay for weeks. Even their venerable father was dragged through the streets with the greatest indignities. On another occasion the officers of the high commission seized all their horses and sheep, except one poor ewe that in its fright ran into the house and took refuge under a bed. Thomas Bliss with a dozen other Puritans, were led through the marketplace in Okehampton with ropes around their necks and fined heavily, and again Thomas was thrown into prison with his son Jonathan, who eventually died from the hardships and abuse of the churchmen. At another time the king's officers seized the cattle of the family and most of their household goods, some of the articles being highly valued for their age and beauty, having been in the family for centuries. In fact, the family was so reduced in circumstances that, being unable to pay the fines and secure the release of both father and son from prison, the young man had to remain in prison, and at Exeter he suffered thirty-five lashes with a three corded whip, which tore his back in a cruel manner. Before Jonathan was released the entire estate had to be sacrificed. The father and mother went to live with their daughter, whose husband belonged to the Established Church, Sir John Calcliffe. The remnant of the estate was divided among the three sons, who were advised to go to America to escape further persecution. Thomas and George feared to wait for Jonathan, who was ill, and they left England in the fall of 1635, with their families, Thomas, son of Jonathan, and grandson of Thomas, remained with his father, who finally died. Then the son came to America also and settled near his Uncle Thomas. At various times their sister sent from England boxes of shoes, clothing, and articles that could not be procured in the colonies, and it is through her letters, long preserved in the original, but now lost, that knowledge of the family was handed down from generation to generation. Children of Thomas I, Jonathan died in England about 1635/6, Thomas came to America, Elizabeth, married Sir John Calcliffe, of Belstonie, George b. 1591 and died Aug. 31, 1667; settled in Lynn, Massachusetts, and later Sandwich, Mass., and even later Newport, R I.; (left a son John), and Mary or Polly.
Thomas Bliss came to America in early 1639. According to Bliss Bible records he was born in Okehampton in the Village of Delsation. He first settled at Mount, removing from there to Braintree, Mass. and later to Hartford, Ct. and his name is on the Founders Monument there. While in Hartford he associated early with the church and resided on Lafayette St. and owned 58 acres. After his death, wife Margaret removed to Springfield, Mass. to escape the malarial epidemic. Many source give her maiden name as Lawrence, but their marriage record was found at the Parish of St. Nichols, Gloucester City, (Gloucestershire, England and this record gives her maiden name as Huling. In my information I had it as Hulins so that is the way I spelled it.

THOMAS BLISS, born in 1585, in Belstone, Devonshire, England. In 1613, he married Margaret Lawrence of that town. She was born in 1594. Thomas, Jr. moved to Hartford, Connecticut, in 1638, and died in that town in 1639.After his death his widow managed the affairs of the family with prudence and good judgment. In 1643, fearing the epidemic of "fevers" then prevalent in that section of Connecticut, Margaret Bliss sold her property and moved with her children to Springfield, Massachusetts. She purchased a tract of land a mile square in Springfield, in the south part of the settlement. One of the streets of this section is still named "Bliss". Margaret Bliss died on August 29, 1684, 45 years after the death of her husband and nearly 50 years after her immigration to America. The first of the ten children born to Thomas Bliss, Jr. and Margaret Bliss, was Ann Bliss.

Thomas Bliss, son of Jonathan Bliss, was born in Belstone parish, Devonshire, England. He married in England, 1612-15, Margaret Lawrenceand they had six children born before coming to America. He too suffered from religious persecution and decided to leave England. He came to Massachusetts with a young brother George, embarking from Plymouth, England, and located first in Braintree, settling soon afterward in Hartford, Connecticut, where he died in 1640. His widow, who is said tohave been a woman of unusual ability, removed with her family to Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1643, and her sons, Nathaniel, Lawrence, Samuel and John, settled there. She died in 1684. Her home lot in Springfield was on South Main street, between the present Fremont and Margaret streets.

9. Hannah, born at Hartford, Connecticut, 1639, died unmarriedJanuary 25, 1662.
10. John, born at Hartford, 1640, died September 10,1702.

It is supposed that the family is of Norman descent and that the name was originally Blois, gradually became Bloys, Blyse, Blysse, Blisse and finally Bliss. The earliest Bliss recorded in England was John Blysse, a learned physician of his time, born in the diocese of Bath and Wells. In 1509 he is mentioned in Merton Coll. of Physicians. He went to London, where he was awarded, in 1525, a degree in physics. He died April 1530 in London.
It is recorded that the founder of the ancient house of Blois in England came with William the Conqueror

U.S. President Zachary Taylor is a descendant.
As the borough of Trim developed to the northwest of the castle, the barbican gate provided a new entrance from the south. In 1224, Walter deLacy, besieged the castle, reclaiming it from his rebellious kinsmen. Asa result, the northern
defences and the Trim Gate required major repairs. When Walter died in1241 the estates passed to his granddaughter, Maud who married Geoffreyde Geneville in 1254--the beginning of a period of prosperity for Trim.[Trim Castle Visitors Guide,

The great mystery surrounding the Princes in the Tower not only blackened the name of King Richard III, but also that of the man accused of perpetrating the "foul deed", Sir James Tyrell. Single-handedly, Sir Thomas More condemns Sir James to infamy in his History of King Richard III, portraying him as, in the scornful words of Paul Murray Kendall, "a malcontent desperado". Through the passage of time, Sir James loyaltiesand actions have lost the ability to speak for themselves, allowing us to now indulge in some reasoned speculation.
Sir James Tyrell, who was a man of right goodly personage and,for naturesgifts, worthy to have served a much better Prince, if he well served Godand by grace obtained as much truth and good will as he had strength andwit.
