Graduated Wabash College Established first greenhouse in Sullivan.
Gr. Grandpa's story about his and John L. Shields marriages: Rev. J. Fox who met Bro. Meteer at Presbetery, wrote Bro. Meteer asking him to come to Graysville and help him in a protracted meeting. Bro. Meteer wrote that he could find Graysville, Il., but not Graysville, In. Fox wrote him to come to Sullivan and someone would be there to meet him. Gr. Grandpa Jim said "I had a horse and buggy while John, who was a school teacher, didn't. So it fell to my lot to meet him." Bro. Fox said "If you see a man that looks more like a buyer than a preacher--tha's him" I was in the train depot when the
train arrived. The traveling salesmen climbed into the busses and those that had friends went with them. I stepped up to him and asked "are you Bro. Meeter?" He said "Meteer!" Everyone knew that John and I were both going to be married soon. We had gone to far with preparations to make a double wedding. I went to Bro. Meteer and spoke to him to marry us, and he said "Well are you gong to beat your brother married?" I said "I am unless he gets married between now and then" and went to get my license. In the meantime, Bro. Fox stops by. "Well," Bro Meteer says, "What are you doing in Sullivan at this time of day on Saturday?" Bro. Fox replies "I'm on my way over to Graysville to marry Shields". "Well," said Bro. Meteer, "I thought I had that job. I guess I had better let you preach for me while you are over there." "Yes" Bro. Fox said, "John had written me to marry him just after church in the morning." Bro. Meteer said "Jimmy said he was going to beat his brother getting married after all." "Now" said Mrs. Meteer, "I think he said unless he gets married between now and then." When I got back to Bro. Meteer and Bro. Fox, they had me looking for the little white spots on my fingernails to
see how many little white lies I had told.

[20091]
U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt is a descendant.
Richard Warren's wife was not Elizabeth (Juett/Jewett/Jonatt) Marsh. Richard Warren's parents have not been identified, and he has no documented descent from Sir John de Warrene, Charlemagne, or anybody else. Royal descent might be very likely for Richard Warren, given his surname and apparent financial soundness in Plymouth; but his parents will have to be identified first before any such claim can be officially made.
