Birthplace "probable" according to Aaron Tyler Bliss p. 25.
Blacksmith. "He secured employment at Daventry in the trade of his father, and doubtlessly his acquired skill provided ready employment for him upon his arrival in America. The last record of George in England was of his marriage. He was married at Holy Cross Church in Daventry May 30, 1635 to Ann Shaw. With his brother (Thomas who settled in Rehoboth, Massachusetts), he and his wife came to America, landing probably at Boston, in about 1638. He is said to have resided a short time at Lynn, Massachusetts from whence he removed to Sandwich, Massachusetts. There on April 16, 1640 he was granted one and one half acres. . . . By the small size of the grant given to George in 16490 is it obvious that he did not farm, but rather continued his trade as a smith. He also did not remain in the Plymouth Colony, for in 1649 he is found at Newport, Rhode Island.
"In 1650 George was appointed, with five others, to mend and make all the arms in Newport. . . . George appears in the Colonial Records (1655-6) as a freeman, and he purchased land in Newport as late as March 22, 1660. On that date articles of agreement wer made whereby Sosoa, an Indian captain of the Narragansett, deeded on June 29, 1660 a large tract of land called Misquamicutt (meaning 'salmon') to 76 colonists, of whom George was one." 3
