"The earliest ancestor of this branch of the Brewer family seems to be Corporal John Brewer, who married Anne of Cambridge. Where he came from originally has not been learned. We find him in Sudbury , Mass, early, for on the Sudbury records the birth of the oldest child John (2) is recorded as born 10 Oct. 1642. ...
This John (1) seems to have been an early and influential resident, active in military service, intrusted with the care of wills and other legal documents, etc. He appears at the General Court 11 Oct ., 1676, as petitioner in behalf of himself and other residents of Sudbury for redress on account of losses sustained by Indians on 21 April 1676. He received 200 pounds sterling as his share...
The Brewer family seem to have been interested in churches, for Corporal John Brewer is mentioned as making propositions for a new church in Sudbury, 10 Jan., 1688, and they were accepted." (Brewer Genealogy)
""John Brewer (Breuer): No connection between John BREWER and Daniel BREWER has been found even though they came together on the LION. Unfortunately, there were two John BREWERS in early Massachusetts records and each had a son named John and a grandson named John with similar birthdates. Many early researchers confused the families and those errors have been copied time after time.
"The John BREWER who came on the LION was in Cambridge in 1642; his son, John, was in Sudbury bef 1669 and all of his descendants were in Sudbury, Weston, Watertown, Hopkinton, Framingham and town s west of Boston, Massachusetts. The other early John BREWER was in Ipswich on the coast northeast of Boston and his son, John and his descendants continued to live in the area. Torrey's NEW ENGLAND MARRIAGES BEFORE 1700 clearly shows three generations of each family and their marriages.
"John BREWER of Sudbury had a son, Samuel. Samuel's two sons, Samuel and David, both distinguished themselves in the Revolutionary War.Samuel Jr. moved to Rutland, MA in 1744, was an Adjutant General in1775, and was wounded at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He was commissioned Colonel of the 12th Regt of MA in Jan 1777 and was at Stillwater and Albany that year; he served in General Patterson' s Brigade in Jul 1778.His brother, David, moved to Palmer, MA in 1775 and was Colonel of the 9th MA Regt when it was commissioned 17 Jun 1775. His regt was stationed in Roxbury, MA in 1775."." (Passengers on the "Lion" from England to Boston)
John Brewer of Cambridge, Ma, emigrated, but he was living in that town in 1642, where in that year his son John was born; he removed to Sudbury before 1647, where his last three children were born. He married second Mary, daughter of John Whitmore of Lynn. (Genealogical & Personal Memories of MA)
John b. in England, 1620, was the ancestor of the Brewer family, and came to America and setled in Cambridge, Mass., about 1640; was a proprietorin 1644-45; moved to sudbury circa 1646. (Colonial Families of the United States)
