EARLDOM of CORNWALL (I) 1141 to 1175
Reynold de Dunstanville, one of the 14 illegitimate children of Henry I,was the son of Sybil, daughter of Sir Robert Corbet, of Alcester, co.Warwick, and having m. ?Mabel, daughter and (in her issue) heir of William Fitz Richard, a man of huge estates in Cornwall, was created about Apr 1141, Earl of Cornwall, probably by the Empress Maud, but the title was fully recognised subsequently by King Stephen. He was a witness to the compromise between Stephen and Henry, 1153. Sheriff of Devon, 1173-75. He was in command, ex parte Regis, Oct 1173, against the rebellious Barons. He d. spm legit, at Chertsey, Surrey, 1 July 1175,and was buried in the Abbey of Reading, when the Earldom reverted to the Crown. [Complete Peerage, III:429 as corrected by XIV:207]

This nobleman bore one of the three swords at thesecond coronation of Richard I, and in the 6th of the same reign [1195],he was with that king in his army in Normandy. EARLDOM OF SURREY (V)
HAMELIN illegitimate son of GEOFFREY V, styled "PLANTAGENET," COUNT OFANJOU, TOURAINE and MAINE, sometime DUKE OF NORMANDY, by an unknownwoman, held lands in Touraine, presumably the gift of his half-brotherHenry II, and appears to have been styled vicomte of Touraine. He becameEARL OF SURREY in consequenceof his marriage to the Countess Isabel in1164; in which year he attended the Council of Northampton. In 1166 hereturned his carta, as holding 60 knights' fees.He supported the Kingagainst his rebellious sons in 1173; and in 1176 he was one of the nobleswho escorted Henry's daughter Joan for her marriage to the King ofSicily. He was present at the 1st Coronation of Richard I, 3 September1189. In the King's absence he supported the Chancellor against John; in1193he was one of the Treasurers for the King's ransom; and in 1194 hewas at the Council of Nottingham. At Richard's 2nd Coronation, 17 April1194, he bore one of the 3 swords; and he was present at the Coronationof King John, 27 May 1199. He was a benefactor, or confirmed previousgifts, to the abbeys of St. Mary's(York), St. Victor-en-Caux, WestDereham and Foucarmont, the priories of Lewes, Nostell, St. Katherine(Lincoln), Southwark, Thetford and Castle Acre, the Hospitallers, and thechapel of St. Philip and St. James in Conisborough Castle. He married, in1164 (probably in April), Isabel, widow of William (OF BLOIS) 4th EARLOFSURREY, and only daughter and heir of William (DE WARENNE), 3rd EARL OFSURREY, all above-named. He died 7 May 1202 and was buried in the ChapterHouse atLewes. Isabel survived him and made gifts for the soul of herlate husband to the priory of St. Katherine, Lincoln, and to LewesPriory. 117. John Plumb. b. on 28 Jul 1594 in Spaynes Hall, Great Yeldham Parish, Essex.2 John died in Jul 1648 in Branford, CT.2
John resided after marriage in Ridgewell Hall, where he is reported by the visitation of Essex of 1634. In 1635 he is found in Wethersfield, Connecticut. The only children known that survived him were Robert, Samuel, and Dorcas. In 1636 he was appointed an appraiser, on 9 Feb 1737 he was a member of the court.2
John, first of Dorchester, MA, removed to Wethersfield, CT, before Sep 1636, and before deputies to General Court were introduced in Connecticut was a sort of ruler in 1637, representative in 1641, 1642, and 1643, had Samuel, and Drocas, wh. mo. 12 Jan.1655, John Lyman, was nomina. 1643 for elect. as Assist. but did not succeed, in the choice, made custom-ho. officer 1644, sold his est. and rem. to Branford before 1646, and there d. His will was pro. 1 Aug. 1648. Yet is it not kn. where he first land. in our country, or whence he came.4
ca 1616 John married Dorothy Wood, in Ridgewell, Essex, Eng. b. ca 1596 in Ridgewell, Essex, Eng. Dorothy died aft 1669 in Branford, CT.
