Note concerning the marriage of Sir Thomas de Swynnerton and Maud deHoland: the fact of this marriage has been questioned in the past as itappears to rest solely upon the statement in the Savage pedigree in theVisitation of Cheshire for 1580. Review of printed sources shows thatRobert de Holand and his wife Maud la Zouche did have a daughter namedMaud who was betrothed as a child to John de Mowbray. After the orderfor the confiscation of the estates of John's father, John (then agedabout 12), his mother Aline, and Maud, who was living with them, weretaken on 26 Feb 1321/2 to the Tower of London to be received by theConstable of the Tower, then Roger de Swynnerton, father of Thomas.Following the imprisonment of Maud's father and the confiscation of hisestates, the marriage of John was granted on 28 Feb 1326/7 to Henry, Earlof Lancaster, whose daughter Joan was then married to John de Mowbray, then fifteen years of age. When John came of age, he received a licenseto grant a life interest in two Mowbray manors to Maud, then free tomarry. That Maud did marry Thomas de Swynnerton depends upon the sourcesfor the article "Ancestry of Obadiah and Mary Bruen", TAG 26:12-25 at 21(1950). In that article Donald Lines Jacobus cited the article by Rev.Canon Bridgeman, "An Account of the Family of Swynnerton of Swynnertonand Elsewhere in the County of Stafford", (Wm. Salt Soc., vol VII pt. II,cit.), which shows that the widow of Thomas de Swynnerton was named Maud(or Matilda), and that there was formerly in Swynnerton Church an "effigyof a woman over whom is written, "Matidis de Swynnerton," and a shieldgiving the arms of Holand, viz: azure, semee of fleurs-de-lys argent, alion rampant guardian argent" (Staffordshire Collection, MS no. 383,William Salt Library).

RC: Poncia de la Marche (Ponce de Montgomery). Says she was born about 1109,
but in line 335 says her father died in 1094. So changed birth date to 1092, could have been much earlier. With these birth dates, father would have been 85 when she was born.
