"Joseph Shaw...was born in Weymouth on 15th April 1664. He was twelve years old when King Phillip's was broke out. But before that there had been fifty hamlets burned and six hundred people killed or captured by Indians, and the war lasted some years after the Swamp Fight...He married in 1686, Judith Whitmarsh, daughter of John Whitmarsh and his wife...Sarah Harding, John Whitmarsh being administrator of the estate. Judith was born 2nd September 1669. Joseph and Judith resided for some time in Weymouth where at least three children were born, after which they removed to Bridgewater...An article in the New England Registrar states...that four of his children were graduated from Harvard." Joseph removed from Weymouth to East Bridgewater near 1696. He still owned land in Weymouth and two of his sons returned to Weymouth.
Division of the estate of Joseph Shaw, weaver, late of Bridgewater, of his Weymouth lands, was ordered 22nd April 1719. His eldest son Joseph Shaw to have the land and to pay his brothers and sisters, viz., Elizabeth Harris, Abigail Alden, Ruth Snow, Martha Shaw, Sarah Shaw, Hannah Shaw, Ebenezer Shaw, John Shaw and Zachariah Shaw, L10 18s. 2d. apiece. (Suffolk Probate, 21: 374-75.)
Division of the estate of Joseph Shaw of Bridgewater dated 24th July 1719 mentions oldest daughter Elizabeth Harris and Husband Isaac.
