This Hugh, having m.Adeline, dau. of Robert, Earl of Mellent, joined with Waleran, her brother, and all those who endeavoured to advance William, son of Rober tCurthose, against King Henry I in 1124, and entering Normandy for that purpose, he was made prisoner, with the said Waleran, and confined for the fourteen years ensuing. The time of his death is not ascertained buthe left issue, Robert; Thurstan; Adeline, m. to William de Britolio; Ada,m. to Richard, son of the Earl of Gloucester. Miles Stapleton, Knt. of Ingham and Bedale, was born abt 1408 (aged
thirty and more in 1438). He was married for the first time to an
unidentified wife. He was marriedfor the second time to Katherine De La
Pole, dau. (and in 1430 heiress) of Thomas de la Pole, Knt., of Grafton,
Regis, co. Northampton, by Anne, dau. of Nicholas Cheney. She was born
about 1416 (aged fourteen and more in 1430). Sir Miles Stapleton died
testate on 30 Sep. or 1 Oct. 1466 and w as buried inIngham Priory (will
dated 4 Aug 1442, proved on 17 Nov. 1466). His widow wasmarried for the
second time to Richard Harcourt, Knt., of Wytham, co. Berks (died 1 Oct.
1486). She died on 13 or 14 Oct 1488, and was buried in Rowley
Abbey(will dated 7 July, 5 Sep. 1488, proved 23 Jan. 1455/9).

Wingfield, Suffolk, by Eleanor, daughter of a Glanville. CP XII/2:444, note "m" shows that Thomas cannot be son of 2nd Earl Michael (as shown in Burke, DNB, etc.). Katharine was 14+ in 1430, d. 13 or 14 Oct 1488, will dated 7 July, 5 Sep 1488,
