Roger, called de Toeni or de Conches; born probably c1104; married Ida,daughter of Baldwin III, Count of Hainault, and died between autumn 1157and the beginning of 1162. [Burke's Peerage]

ROGER DE TOENI III, styled also DE CONCHES, 1st son and heir, was bornprobably about 1104, and succeeded his father about 1126. In 1131 heattested Henry I's pancarte confirming all the grants of his ancestorsand himself and others to the abbey of Conches. He is said to have wagedwar with Hugh de Chateauneuf in 1133. In 1135 the King suspected that hewas preparing to rebel, together with William Talvas, Count of Ponthieu,on behalf of Henry's son-in-law, Geoffrey Plantagenet, and sent his ownsoldiers to garrison the castle of Conches. After the King's death Rogersupported Geoffrey and his wife the Empress Maud against Stephen. AfterEaster 1136 hostilities began between him and the King's generals, thetwins Waleran, Count of Meulan, and Robert, Earl of Leicester; and civilwar raged in May and June. In the autumn the fighting flared up again;but on 3 October Roger was ambushed and captured by Count Waleran andHenry de la Pommeraye. His land was laid under an interdict and he waskept in prison for more than 6 months, butwas released in 1137. In May1138 he was attacked by the Count of Meulan and William d'Ypres, butdefended himself successfully; and on 7 September he captured Breteuiland burnt the town. However, before the end of 1138 he made peace withthe twin Earls, who conducted him to England, where he was reconciled toKing Stephen. Nothing is known of what happened to his English landsduring this period. In 1150 or 1151 he was with Henry, Duke of Normandy,at Rouen. After Henry had become King, Roger enjoyed the royal favour;for between Michaelmas 1157and Michaelmas 1158 the King granted him 100solidates of land at Holkham, Norfolk. He was a benefactor to the abbeysof la Noë, Conches and Bec.
He married Ida, daughter of BALDWIN III, COUNT OF HAINAULT, by Yolande,daughter of Gerard, COUNT OF GUELDERS. With her he had in marriage fromHenry 120 librates ofland out of the royal demesne at East Bergholt,Suffolk. Roger de Toeni [the third of that name, or III] was born ca. 1104, anddied afterMichaelmas 1157, presumably before his son died in 1162. Hemarried Ida of Hainault, daughter of Baldwin III, Count of Hainault, byhis wife Yolande de Guelders. It is not known when Ida died, but shepresumably survived him, as Henry II granted her [Ida de Tounay] land atGarsington, co. Oxford [Rot. Hund.].
This couple had four known sons:
(1) Ralph de Toeni [V], who succeeded his father and died 1262/3, havingmarried Margaret de Beaumont.
(2) Roger de Toeni, Jr., dead by 1185, when his wife Ade/Alda de Chaumontwas holding land at Holkington, co. Norfolk, of her son Baldwin de Toeni[II] (1170-1216), Seigneur deAcquigny, apparently father of Roger deAkeny and Sir William Dakeny [Acquigny]. The Rotuli de Dominabus statesthat Ade/Alda was born about 1155, and that she had five daughters asidefrom her son Baldwin. [Does anyone have any Dakeny ancestry?]
(3) Baldwin de Toeni, who settled in Hainault [having resided withhisuncle Baldwin IV], where he died in 1170, leaving issue.
(4) Geoffrey deToeni, a cleric who flourished 1157-62, 1177.

1st Earl of Dunbar. One of the native English lords who at first resisted the Norman invasion. He wa afterwards received into favor by William the Conqueror and in 1069 was made Earl of Northumberland which he bought for a largesum of money from the King. Installed 1068/69 by William I the Conqueror as Earl, then predominantly an administrative post after his payment of a heavy fine or what would not be thought of as an entrance fee (though his hereditary claim through his maternal grandfather also played a part). In October or November 1027, Gospatric was deprived of the Earldon on a charge of having taken
part in a massacre at Durham. He fled to Scotland, where his cousin Malcolm III of Scotland granted him the Mormaorship of Dunbar (Burke's

Came to America in March 1630 on the ship, MARY AND JOHN with a party of colonists from Somerset, Dorset and Devon, who founded Dorchester, MA.
Thomas studied law in London
He lived at "Cowleyes" in 1626, Marshwood, Co. Dorset, remaind at Marshwood until 1634, when he set sail with his 2nd wife and 7 children in the ship "Mary and John", from Weymouth, England for Dorchester, Mass.
1st Lady, Nancy Davis Reagan is a descendant.
One of the first settlers of Dorchester, and a man of unusual businessability, and many of his descendants have been prominent in business,military and prof essional circles.

"THOMAS NEWBERRY was one of the earliest settlers an d largest landed proprietors of Dorchester, Mass., receiving from the General C ourt, in March, 1634, one hundred acres of land at Neponset, and many other grants from the proprietors of the town. He was made a freeman September 3,1634, and was chosen a Deputy or Representative in 1635. He became interested in th e Connecticut settlement, and disposed of all his estate in Dorchester, with the intention of removing to Windsor, Conn., withthe Rev. Mr. Warham and his par ty. He died, however, before thedeparture of this company. in December, 1635, or January, 1636. (Stiles's*History of Windsor*.) He had been in Windsor a s hort time before,preparing for removal, and his lands were recorded to his chi ldren in1640. His widow, Jane, and children, made the journey to the new settlement, and she became the second wife of Rev. John Warham (perhaps before the migration to Windsor), and died in Norwalk, Conn., April 23,1645.

JOHN TRIPP (1610-1678) , was of Portsmouth, R. I. He was Deputy for thirteen terms, between 1648, an d 1672, and Assistant for 1670, 1673, 1674 and1675. He was repeatedly a memb er of the Town Council. His wife Mary, the daughter of Anthony Paine, died February 12, 1687.

1638, He was admitted as an inhabitant of the Island of Aquidneck.
April 30, 1639, He and 28 others signed the following compact:We, who'snames are underwritten, do acknowledge ourselves the legal subject of HisMajesty King Charles, and in his name to hereby bind ourselves into acivil body politic, unto his laws according to matters of justice.
March 1, 1643, He was granted three acres of land next to Thomas Gorton.
1648, and other years through 1672, served as Deputy.
Oct 2, 1649, He and wife Mary, gave receipt to Rose Weeden, widow ofAnthony Paine, for legacy from the well of the latter.

Nov 30 1657, He was granted land on Hog Island, for a term of sevenyears.

Dec 8 1666, Whereas, Mary Tripp, wife of John Tripp, Sr., sometwenty-five years ago, bought of Richard Searle, for a pint of wine,three acres of land, the said RIchard Searle then living in Portsmouth,she being then unmarried, about which time Searle removed, but left nodeed to Mary, now, therefore, said sell is confirmed by commissioners.

To wife, all of his estate,consisting of lands, goods and chattels, movable and immovable, duringher natural life, "only my old house excepted, or north end of mybuilding which I have given to my son John Tripp formerly."
To son John, house, lot and ten acres of land in the clay pit field, andmeadows at Hog Island; and all fencing, housing, orchards, etc.,"excepting my new house or south end of my building, etc."
To son Abiel, the south half of building last elluded to with lotadjoining and other land; and Abiel was to pay 5Lbs. to his brotherPeleg, and 10Lbs. to his brother Joseph. To son James, 1/8th of a shareof land at Dartmouth, and rights in land lying in the Narragansett Countyand westerly. To daughter Martha, 20Lbs. and to grandchild ElizabethWodell, 10Lbs.
