NOTES FOR JOHN TYLER, FATHER OF THE PRESIDENT:
John Tyler was a life long friend of Thomas Jefferson, his roommate at the College of William and Mary. He was Judge of Admiralty Court ofViginia in 1776, Vice President of Virginia Convention in 1788 and theGovenor of Virginia in 1808-1811. - Captain John Tyler was with the Hanover County Minute Men under PatrickHenry in the first armed resistance in Virginia during the RevolutionaryWar.
-In 1781 he was the Speaker of the House of Delegates. His second son,John, was the tenth President of the United States. John is listed on the DAR Patriot Index.
