Margaret de Somery was aged 32 in 1321-1322 when she inherited Dudley and
various other manors as coheiress of her brother John, Lord Somery. The
feudal barony of Dudley originated in the Paganel family and was carried
to the Somerys by the marriage of Hawise, dau. of Ralph and granddaughter
of Fulk Paganel, to John de Somery. Margaret de Somery's parents were
Roger de Somery and Agnes, her grandparents Roger de Somery and his
second wife Amabel de Chacombe, dau. of Sir Robert de Chacombe and widow
of Gilbert de Seagrave, her great-grandparents Ralph de Somery and
Margaret, Ralph being son and heir of Hawise Paganel.
