Samuel Henry Sawyer, son of Theron Eusebius Sawyer and Harriet Hannah Stokes,
first married Margaret J. Hale in Brown County, KS on april 1 1877, and
they had one daughter, Lela May Sawyer. Samuel sbsequently married his second
wife, Sarah Cordelia Sutton, daughter of Francis Sutton and Susanette Martin,
who had also emmigrated to and settled in Brown County, KS in the mID
1850's.
Samuel and Sarah Sawyer had 9 children, all of whom were born at their farm
there in Brown County, KS. This farm was purchased by Samuel's mother,
Harriet Hannah Stokes in 1869 after the death of Theron Sawyer, from the Union
Pacific Railroad, and she subsequently deeded it to Samuel Henry. Samuel and
Sarah Sawyer sold this farm in Brown County and moved to Topeka, KS in
1904, where they raised their family. Both lived to see all their children
married and in homes of their own. They are buried in the Topeka Cemetery
next to each other.
